In the film, we see bannersfor Palantine’s campaign, and Travis Bickle makes quite animpression wearing a campaign button on his fatigue jacket aftershaving his hair into a Mohawk.
Palantine is not to beconfused with a Palantir, which is the magical scrying device from‘The Lord of the Rings.’ He is also not to be confused withSenator Palpatine from the ‘Star Wars’ series, although Palpatineis supposedly named after the Taxi Driver character. Go figure.
