Description:This item is a WWII American Red Cross olive drab herringbone twill (HBT) personal effects ditty bag. It originally was filled with toiletries, shaving kit, sewing kit, and other small essentials and provided by local Red Cross personnel to soldiers prior to boarding troopships at their various ports of embarkation throughout the United States. The bag has a drawstring for opening/closing and a label sewn on the front side that faintly reads,"American Red Cross / Rochester, Minn. / Chapter."These bags were distributed through local Red Cross chapters and commonly used by servicemen to store personal items during transport or while in the field.
