This is a rare and possibly one of a kind Short Snorter $1 Bill Silver Certificate from 1935. It has the combined autographs of famous leading WWII Marine Fighter Ace Joe Foss and fellow WWII Naval Officer and Actor Robert Taylor. Joe Foss’s signature can be seen clearly to the right of George Washington and Robert Taylor’s signature is to the far left of the bill. There are 19 total signatures on the bill and perhaps some other famous names I don’t recognize.
Joe Foss was the leading Marine Ace of WWII and received the Medal of Honor. In addition he was a two term Governor of South Dakota and was the first President of the American Football League. Actor Robert Taylor was a WWII Flight Instructor and met Joe Foss in Hollywood and became best of friends and long time hunting buddies. Making this a very rare and special Short Snorter note and a must have for any WWII memorabilia or Short Snorter Collector.
Priced very well considering the desirability of such a collectable. Where else will you find one. This deal also includes a copy of Joe Foss’s Autobiography. On page 106 of the book Joe states “A group of us had begun spending our evenings together playing cards. As our membership grew we became known as the Short Snorters/ a short snorter being a small drink which we occasionally managed.” On page 191 Joe states “Many of the men I meet during those Hollywood visits became lifelong friends, including Bing Crosby, Gary Cooper, Bob Hope, Sammy Kaye, and Robert Taylor.”
