Original WWII Imperial Japanese Navy enlisted sailor’s cap.

The interior retains its original Maizuru Naval Supply Department label, dated July 1944 (Showa 19). The label is marked Size 4 and contains the sailor’s handwritten name, individual identification number and the notation “舞二補機.” The precise meaning or full unit designation of this abbreviated notation has not been confirmed.

The cap tally is embroidered in gold with “大日本帝国海軍” (Imperial Japanese Navy). This generic wartime tally replaced ribbons identifying individual ships or naval stations for security reasons.
