WWII Japanese Imperial Navy officer’s dirk koshirae fitted with a replacement alloy blade.
This is a high-quality mounting featuring a polished ray-skin scabbard. The surface of the ray skin has been carefully polished to emphasize its distinctive natural pattern. The grip is also covered with white ray skin featuring large, prominent nodules.

The replacement blade has corrosion along portions of the edge and some fingerprints or handling marks. There are no inspection or arsenal markings on the guard.
The ray-skin surface of the scabbard has some light rubbing and wear. A crack is visible in the section beneath the metal scabbard tip, as shown in the photographs.
The scabbard locking mechanism works properly. The fittings and mounting remain attractive and display the quality workmanship found on better Japanese naval dirks.
