An original, museum-quality, 1941 diary of a British pilot who enlisted in the RAF and went through the blitzkrieg with his family. His name is written neatly in the front. The entries run from January 1, 1941 through August 13, 1941, with a few scattered entries thereafter. It begins with his enlistment in the RAF, continues through training and bombing \"raids all day,\" and ends with him on a ship in the North Atlantic.
I don\'t see any mention of actual combat but I haven\'t read the entire diary and so am not sure of his complete story. There are lots of mentions of German bombing. Please see the photos. There are also several pieces of ephemera tucked in -- photos, clippings, a picture of Jesus.The pilot / author went on to a successful career as a cartoonist (in the Saturday Evening Post and others) and so has an incisive and clear-eyed view of history.
Fair condition as a book due to the spine and covers separating. On the other hand, as a historical artifact, it\'s fine: the contents are easily readable, with the writing unfaded and written in a clear hand.
