Up for sale is an exceptional, historically significant matching pair of vintage Philippine school textbooks purchased in Manila in June 1945 by WWII United States Naval Reserve Officer, Lt. (j.g.) John R. Russell.
These books serve as a remarkable physical record of civilian resistance, wartime preservation, and the Allied Liberation of the Philippines
HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS & INSCRIPTIONS:The Inscription: Hand-signed and dated "June 1945, Bought in Manila, P.I." by Lt. (j.g.) John R. Russell, USNR.
Censorship Commentary: Lt. Russell explicitly wrote an incredible firsthand account on the endpaper: "This book escaped censorship – many books were hidden during the war to prevent defacing of any pages containing information complimentary to the United States. J.R."
Wartime Currency Preserved: Taped inside one of the volumes is a genuine wartime 10-Pesos Japanese Government Invasion Note ("Mickey Mouse Money"), serving as a perfect visual timeline marker of the theater.
