Original WWII-era felt pennant dated 1943 for the U.S. Army 8th Engineer Squadron, 1st Cavalry Division.
Dark blue felt with colorful printed graphics and lettering reading “Greetings from 8th Engineer Squadron,” “Down Under,” and “1943.” The design features a large kangaroo carrying a uniformed soldier, the Engineer Corps castle insignia, and humorous anti-Axis wartime imagery.
The 8th Engineer Squadron served as the engineer unit of the 1st Cavalry Division during World War II. The unit deployed to Australia in 1943, making the dated “Down Under” imagery on this pennant directly relevant to its wartime service in the Southwest Pacific. The 1st Cavalry Division subsequently participated in the New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Leyte and Luzon campaigns.
Long triangular felt pennant with two ties at the hoist end. Reverse is plain blue felt.
