Beautiful and unusual vintage silver-plated / silver-tone ornate hand mirror featuring an exceptionally detailed raised-relief scene on the reverse.
The elaborate design depicts a courting couple in period dress with a dog in a formal garden, surrounded by a classical statue, urn, balustrade, trees, flowers and heavy Rococo-style scrollwork. The ornate decoration continues down the handle, which also features a raised bird motif.
The front features a large beveled glass mirror.
The piece has a dark aged patina/tarnish with brighter silver-colored areas visible across the raised details. No maker or silver hallmark has been identified, and the metal has not been professionally tested. It is therefore being described as silver-plated/silver-tone rather than sterling silver.
Shows age-related patina, tarnish, surface wear, scratches and wear to the mirror consistent with age. There is also visible wear/loss around the opening at the end of the handle. It has not been aggressively polished or restored, preserving its aged appearance and detail.
