Beautiful vintage Japanese covered ceramic box featuring an intricate scene of women in traditional kimono on the lid.The piece is decorated in the Satsuma-style tradition with an ivory crackle-glaze ground, detailed polychrome decoration, gold accents and raised moriage-style embellishment. The deep turquoise/blue-green body is covered with raised enamel dots and applied floral designs, giving the piece wonderful texture and dimension.The underside retains a red Made in Japan marking/maker’s mark.Approximately 9 inches in diameter.The lid lifts off to reveal a spacious glazed interior, making this suitable as a jewelry box, keepsake box or decorative display piece.
