Up for sale is a fantastic, genuine vintage hand-painted wooden sign featuring a highly stylized circus clown graphic. This is an authentic piece of mid-century British fairground and attraction folk art, recently discovered in a house clearance I was told it was originally used in a touring circus fairground, Measuring exactly 63 cm wide by 27 cm tall, it is a perfect mid-sized statement piece that fits comfortably on a standard bedroom, hallway, or home bar wall.
The sign is painted on genuine old 5-ply utility plywood with heavily layered oil or enamel paint, The unpainted reverse side features original drilled mounting holes surrounded by historical iron oxide rust staining, confirming it was nailed up and used for an extended period.
This piece is in honest vintage condition and boasts a beautiful, authentic aged patina. It displays prominent surface scratches, minor paint flaking, and light edge wear from years of genuine utility and storage. It is being sold completely untouched and un-restored to preserve its historic character for collectors of unique British fairground memorabilia and authentic Americana-style folk art.
