Vintage Ed. Wüsthof Dreizack Solingen German Stag Hunting Knife with Sheath
Original vintage Ed. Wüsthof / Dreizackwerk German fixed-blade hunting knife, made in the famous cutlery-producing city of Solingen, Germany, and dating approximately to the 1950s–1960s.
The high-resolution photographs show the small Wüsthof Dreizack / trident trademark stamped into the blade immediately beside the rectangular ROSTFREI mark.
ROSTFREI is German for stainless / rust-resistant steel and is a material designation rather than the maker\'s name.
Wüsthof is one of Solingen\'s historic cutlery manufacturers, and its distinctive Dreizack — trident — trademark has been used since the late 19th century.
This is an attractive traditional German Jagdmesser / hunting knife with genuine stag-antler scales, full-tang construction and a fitted vintage leather belt sheath with metal toe reinforcement.
Knife Details
Maker: Ed. Wüsthof / Dreizackwerk
Origin: Solingen, Germany
Period: Approximately 1950s–1960s
Type: Fixed-blade hunting knife / Jagdmesser
Blade Mark: Wüsthof Dreizack emblem + ROSTFREI
Blade: Stainless steel
Tang: Full tang
Handle: Genuine natural stag / deer antler scales
Pins: Three brass pins
Sheath: Vintage fitted leather belt sheath with retaining strap and brass-colored metal toe cap
Dimensions
Overall length: approximately 8 7/8 inches / 22.5 cm
Blade length: approximately 4 1/4 inches / 10.8 cm
The proportions are characteristic of a compact traditional German hunting knife intended as a practical belt knife rather than a large fighting or Bowie-style knife.
Handle
The handle is fitted with attractive genuine stag-antler scales.
The natural antler surfaces retain their irregular bark texture and contrasting cream-to-dark-brown coloration. Each side is fitted to the full tang and secured with three brass pins.
The stag has excellent visual character and gives the knife the traditional appearance strongly associated with German hunting cutlery.
Blade & Construction
The stainless blade has a narrow traditional hunting profile with a gently descending spine and pointed tip.
The blade is marked:
Wüsthof Dreizack integral polished bolster / guard transitions into the full-tang handle construction, producing a solid and substantial traditional German hunting-knife design.
Leather Sheath
Included is the fitted vintage leather sheath shown in the photographs.
The sheath features:
Dark brown / nearly black aged leather
Heavy contrasting stitching
Belt attachment
Retaining flap with press-stud closure
Brass-colored protective metal toe / chape
The sheath has genuine age and usage wear consistent with long-term ownership.
Condition
Original vintage used condition with honest age and field/use wear.
Showsconsiderable historic sharpening and polishing marks across the blade surfaces, along with scattered scratches and minor spotting from use and storage.
The blade point has a small chip / loss, leaving the very tip slightly shortened or rounded. There is also a small additional edge chip visible toward the forward portion of the blade.
The genuine stag scales remain attractive but have slight movement / looseness. They have been left as found rather than tightened or re-peened.
The polished guard / bolster shows surface scratching and handling wear.
The leather sheath remains substantially intact with expected surface wear, rubbing, scuffs and age patina. There is a small cut in the leather retaining/closing flap. The metal toe cap shows scratches, tarnish and normal age wear.
No attempt has been made to aggressively restore the knife. Its age, sharpening history and patina remain visible.
Please study all 24 high-resolution photographs carefully for the exact blade condition, chipped tip, stag scales, maker\'s trademark and leather sheath.
Collector Interest
A desirable vintage German hunting knife combining several important characteristics:
Ed. Wüsthof / Dreizackwerk maker attribution
Solingen manufacture
Historic Dreizack trident trademark
ROSTFREI stainless blade
Genuine stag-antler handle
Full-tang construction
Traditional German Jagdmesser form
Vintage fitted leather sheath
The Wüsthof attribution is particularly important because the small circular blade emblem can easily be overlooked and these knives are often incorrectly sold simply as anonymous “ROSTFREI Solingen” hunting knives.
An excellent addition to a collection of German hunting knives, Solingen cutlery, Wüsthof knives, vintage stag-handled knives, European sporting knives or traditional German Jagdmesser.
