An authentic Indian Tribal embroidery, originatin from the Kutch region - known for rich, detailed mirror work (Shisha) Note the dense stitching, vibrant colors and intricate Shisha embroidery in which small mirrors are sewn into the fabric. Historically mirror work served the function, symbolically warding off the evil eye by reflecting negativity away from its wearer or home. It features complex geometric patterns achieved through fine hand-stitching in silk and cotton. It is quite large and ideal for use as a wall panel.
The background cotton is hand dyed in a beautiful cranberry red, plum, and ecru. The embroidery used most colors in the palate with a focus on red, gold, purple, ecru and chartreuse. It has embroidery on 27” from both ends of the long panel. Each of the 4 corners is squared in a different, elaborate design. It originally had small tassels in shells. Most of them are now just loose strings, but a few shells remain.
The condition is very good to excellent. We note either dye errors or light water spots in the center, as pictured. We otherwise find no spot or holes.
