The fifth annual premier action sports competition took place at Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 14. NBC will broadcast live from the venue on its final day. More than 160,000 spectators visited Cleveland’s lakefront in 2002 to ooh and ahh at the extraordinary athleticism and competition exhibited at the games. Fans got to jam to live music, tried out bike and skateboard courses and met their favorite athletes. Gravity Games is the highest-rated, action sports television event in the country, featuring more than 200 of the best professional action sports athletes from around the globe. Competitions include aggressive inline skating (vert), bike (street, vert and dirt), freestyle motocross, skateboarding (street and vert) and wakeboarding (men and women). 2003 NBC’s broadcast began with live coverage from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, followed by additional shows on Sept. 21 and 28 and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Travis Pastrana, Bob Burnquist and Dave Mirra were among the top athletes that competed. Performers continued to qualify through July and August. And inline skate superstar Fabiola Da Silva qualified in the male dominated field. Da Silva qualified for the 2002 event and finished 13th in a field of 20 men.
