NOW, more thank ever before, the TRANSFORMERS really are \'more than meets the eye\'!Beginning in 1992, Hasbro Toys gave their best-selling transforming robots an overhaul with their new toy line, TRANSFORMERS GENERATION 2 -- or G2 -- noting that the stories and designs that had come before would now be referred to as \"Generation 1\" or \"G1.\" The toy line ran from 1992-1994, and while it did add a few new characters to the known core of Autobots and Decepticons, most of the toys in the series were vividly re-colored and/or upgraded versions of theestablished characters. However, with G2, both Transformers groups did receive new versions of their respective logos.
The toys\' launch was done in partnership with Marvel, the publisher launching a gritty twelve-issue series in the fall of 1993 to coincide the debut of G2 Transformers on toy shelves. The series, Transformers: Generation 2, featured both new and old Transformers characters and also involved characters from Marvel\'s GI JOE: A Real American Hero comic book series, with some of the Transformer redesigns stemming directly from events in the GI JOE series.
The series\' first issue featured OPTIMUS PRIME on an eye-popping gatefold foil cover printed on card-stock paper, and it was a winner.
The issue\'s story begins with agroup of Autobots, led by Grimlock, that destroys a bunch of Decepticons in the deepest reaches of space. Soon, the Autobots discover the Decepticons had been working to recover another type of Decepticons, a group lead by the Cybertronian named Jhiaxus and one far more powerful than they could ever have imagined. In the face of this new and overwhelming threat, Autobot leader Optimus Prime learns that an even greater threat known as The Swarm is moving through space, heading towards Earth -- and before the Swarm destroy the planet, they\'ll annihilate every Autobot and Decepticon in their path...
