MARVELCOMICSIn a surprising move, Marvel Studios has included THE SENTRY in their upcoming THUNDERBOLTS (2025). Given the power levels of the film's known cast of characters, the Superman-like Sentry is clearly out of their collective league. This fact alone supports the "asterisk" at the end of the THUNDERBOLTS movie logo, suggesting the team may very well be re-named the 'Dark Avengers" or possibly "New Avengers" before its screen time runs out. Given that The Sentry was a founding member of the Dark Avengers in Marvel Comics' New Avengers #49 (2009) and even appears on the cover of that issue, we're betting good money that there will be at least two -- if not three -- distinct teams of Avengers going into Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).While exactly how far the filmmakers will explore Sentry inThunderboltsis unknown at the point, as is whether or not the character will continue on toAvengers: Doomsdayand/orAvengers: Secret Wars, the most recent limited series featuring The Sentry have expanded substantially on the character and his often god-like powers. Writer Jeff Lemire's The Sentry (Vol 3) from 2018 explored a better side of THE VOID, while the 2024 limited series, The Sentry(Vol 4) by Jason Loo, explored a peculiar nature of Sentry's powers that appeared after the character's apparent death.
If Sentry appears in Avengers: Secret Wars and is somehow destroyed, could his powers then somehow be dispersed among his surviving teammates? It's always possible -- and if it happens, then The Sentry #1 (2024) will be the book your collection will be glad you picked up before it became a Marvel Studios key.
So do it today -- give your collection what it deserves -- because hindsight is 20/20, and, like Taskmaster in theThunderbolts movie,we don't expect thIs Variant to be around long!
