BLAZINGWESTis a dynamic and exciting series, full of action, gun fights and cowboys. Therewere a core group of characters and their adventures featured in most issues.Injun Joe was a white orphan who was adopted and raised by Native Americans. Heroamed the west trying to help people. Buffalo Belle, who is deputized toprotect her town when the sheriff was wounded. Tenderfoot recounts the tales ofHorace Eddington Brentwood, an easterner who inherits half a ranch and movesout west to care for it. Although considered to be a “tenderfoot” he proves tobe much more resourceful than his outward mild-mannered appearance conveys.Powder River Pete provides humor as he bumbles through life on the range. Finally, there is Texas Tim, Ranger…the name is self-explaining. BLAZINGWEST began publication in the Fall of 1948 as part of the American ComicsGroup line up of titles. It only lasted twenty issues, changing to THE HOODEDHORSEMAN at issues #21. BLAZING WEST had a stable of excellent artistsincluding Leonard Starr, Edmond Good, Ed Moritz and Max Elkan. This book wascompiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comicsare over seventy years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pagesas enjoyable as possible but not every panel is perfect and some allowances forthe age of the books need to be considered when judging the overall contents. The stories here were created in a less enlightened time and there are someimages that may offend modern readers.
