The 24th US Infantry Buffalo Soldiers protected the Texas frontier during the Comanche and Kiowa Wars. An Original US July 16, 1874 US Army "True Copy"of a telegram sent via " the Rio Grande Railroad Company" to" Captain AS Kimball at Fort Brown, Brownsville, Texas on temporary duty at Brazos Santiago" , from SB Holabrid, as Dept QM General at San Antonio, Texas,directing him to send the QM supplies requested.. The copy is signed as a "true copy", by f Lt Jonathan B Nixon as Quartermaster, 24th Infantry. Comes w service info- The signer, Lt John Benton Nixon, 24th US Infantry served as a USCT Officer during the Civil War, and posrwar was the QM for the 24th S Colored Infantry.. General Samuel Beckley Holabird , served as a US Army Scout on the Texas Frontier n the 1850s, .a Civil War veteran career officer later promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. and US Army Q.M. General. Amos S Kimball also served in the Civil War, and rose to the rank of Brigadier General after service in the field in the Geronimo Wars. The signer Lieutenant John Benton Nixon, a native Virginian served with th102nd Illinois and the USCT in the Civil War and the 24th US Infantry Buffalo Soldiers postwar and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. 1p 8 x 5" in brown(sepia) and red ink.
