This sale is for a letter and a book sent to the Prime Minister of Trinidad by President Richard Nixon during the final years of the Vietnam War. The letter is dated February 16, 1972.
Both items were sent to Trinidad in a very personal way. They were purchased at an estate sale in Miami from a member of the Williams family. Dr. Eric Williams died in 1981 and family members moved to south Florida.
Dr. Williams was both an accomplished
historian and political leader. His 1944 book "Capitalism and Slavery" argued the British abolition of their slave trade was based on economics ..... Not altruism.
He provided a message to NASA'S Apollo 11 mission that rests on the lunar surface .....
THE is our earnest hope for mankind that while we gain the moon, we shall not lose the world". Eric E. Williams was Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from 1962 - 1981 .... until his death.
He was .....in his time .....the most important Caribbean leader and known as "Father of the items are vintage/ historical . They are in excellent vintage condition with no damage. The letter was stored .... Folded in the book for most of the time. When I purchased the items I stored the letter in the plastic covers you see in the pictures.
There is slight discoloration .....to both items..... as seen in the pictures.
These items belong in a serious collection or a museum specializing in Black or Caribbean history.
