original, pre-WWI USMC Model 1912 Blanket Bag manufactured by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot. Measures 13.75” wide 15” deep with a 5.5” gusset. Depot marking is no longer readable.
Bag is named in the closure ties but I am unable to make out the name.
Bag retains its original white cordage for securing the flaps.
This specific example has a period field modification by cutting and riveting a pair U.S. Navy Model 1895 Mills Sidearm Belt suspenders to serve as the heavy-duty shoulder straps. Measures 1.5” wide. The straps are securely mounted using period-correct hand hammered solid copper rivets and burrs. The lower tails of the straps are 3/4-inch U.S. Navy white canvas web leads from a pre-WWI Naval Brigade landing harness. Measures 3/4" and retains the original brass hooks which are reinforced with hollow brass and hand hammered copper rivets.
