π DESCRIPTION
This ODA-156, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) challenge coin combines highly specific team identification with one of the more visually distinctive Special Forces coin formats. The prominent 156 designation, oversized die-cut spade profile, skull-and-wings artwork, and large gold 1 immediately separate this example from broader, general-issue Special Forces designs.
The obverse is dominated by the 156 skull-and-wings emblem positioned over a black spade, with crossed arrows extending above the central design. White enamel wings, antiqued silver-tone relief, gold numbering, and open cutouts give the front substantial depth while maintaining a bold ODA-focused presentation.
The reverse reinforces the Special Forces identity with a large gold 1 behind the U.S. Army Special Forces regimental insignia. Crossed arrows, the fighting knife, and the DE OPPRESSO LIBER scroll complete a design immediately recognizable to Green Beret and Special Forces collectors.
