Robert gilbeau is the first sitting rear Admiral to be convicted of a crime in federal court while on active duty for his involvement in what is called one of the biggest national security breaches in U.S. Naval history. Gilbeau was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for his involvement in the FAT LEONARD scandal, where navy personnel were bribed by "Fat Leonard" to divulge naval ship movements and redirect ships to ports that CDMA, Fat Leonard's company provided services at, thereby fraudulently making millions off of the navy for his services.
