Up for your consideration is an original World War II British press photograph showing RAF Sergeant pilots relaxing at a Fighter Command station while awaiting the call to action.
The original typed caption, titled “R.A.F. Fighters Beat the Nazis,” states that two Spitfire pilots had recently shot down a Messerschmitt 109 in combat seven miles above England’s southeast coast. The victory reportedly marked the 600th enemy aircraft claimed destroyed by squadrons operating from that Fighter Command station.
Dated December 5, 1940. The reverse retains the original PIX PHOTOS Ltd., Clifford’s Inn, Fleet Street, London E.C.4 copyright stamp and period caption.
Original vintage condition with age-related toning, light surface wear, and minor edge/corner wear.
