JIMMY HOFFA – LIFE INSURANCE APPLICATION MAILED TO HIS LAKE ORION, MICHIGAN HOME
An unusual and somewhat ironic piece of Jimmy Hoffa memorabilia: an original 1992 Day-One Whole Life Insurance solicitation and application addressed directly to “James R. Hoffa” at his Lake Orion, Michigan residence.
The mailing was sent by Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Company and offered Hoffa up to $10,000 in whole life insurance coverage. Both the certificate and application are pre-printed with Hoffa’s name and home address.
The application was mailed in 1992, approximately 17 years after Hoffa’s mysterious disappearance in 1975, and nevertheless invited him to apply for life insurance and provide information concerning his health, beneficiary, and other personal details.
Hoffa’s disappearance remains one of the most famous unsolved mysteries in American history, making a life insurance solicitation addressed to him so many years later an especially fascinating piece of ephemera.
The mailing includes the original:
- Day-One Life Insurance Certificate addressed to James R. Hoffa
- Whole Life Insurance Application bearing Hoffa’s name and Lake Orion address
- Multi-page insurance solicitation letter
- Original policy amount and “Free Gift” sticker sheet
- Business reply envelope
- Additional promotional insert
- Original outer mailing envelope addressed to Hoffa
The outer envelope and paperwork show age, folds, handling, and storage wear consistent with the photographs. The application itself was never completed or signed by Hoffa.
Provenance: This material was found inside Hoffa’s former Lake Orion, Michigan home after the property was sold by the Hoffa family.
A very unusual Hoffa collectible combining his famous disappearance with the particularly ironic subject of life insurance, and an interesting piece of ephemera connected directly to his longtime Michigan residence.
