Sisyphus was a Greek king who interfered in one of Zeus’ many abductions of nubile young ladies. He was punished in the afterlife by having to roll a boulder up a hill, only to inevitably have it roll back down to the bottom where Sisyphus must retrieve it and roll it again.
Albert Camus wrote an essay "The Myth of Sisyphus," discussing that seeing the absurdity in life can give meaning to even the most punishing of existences, and allow one to find contentment in the journey instead of endlessly waiting for the outcome.. Sisyphus can be imagined as happy despite his eternal punishment of rolling a boulder up a hill, as the struggle itself gives life meaning.
