In 1971, Hummel produced its first annual plate. The very first plate, “Heavenly Angel” was released to the factory workers to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the W. Goebel Firm. The plate was later made for retail sale. This first plate was so popular in the United States, it was decided that similar plates would be released annually from then on.
