HBO’sten part miniseries titled “The Pacific” was Tom Hanks and Steven Spielbergpart two or companion piece of the popular HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers”.HBO’s “The Pacific” can currently be viewed on Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, HBOand many other streaming services. The Pacific miniseries features the USMC 1stMarine Division's battles in the Pacific; such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester,Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone's involvement in the Battle of IwoJima.
StevenSpielberg has been quoted saying that “The Pacific” was significantly more challengingto produce and tell the story of WWII in the Pacific compared to that of theBand of Brothers. Whereas the Band of Brothers was able to follow just onecompanies service; that of Easy Company of the 506th PIR from Currahee throughthe conclusion of WWII in Europe.
ThePacific was significantly more challenging in order to tell the story and horrificallybloody battles of WWII in the Pacific HBO had to use the stories of fourdifferent USMC veterans stories to accurately tell the entire history of the Battlesof the Pacific Theater of Operations as The Pacific War was composed ofsignificantly more battles making it impossible to use just one unit as was donein the Band of Brothers. However HBO The Pacific miniseries went through thesame painstaking process of using the real names of the actually WWII veteranswho are portrayed in The Pacific just as they did in the Band of Brothers.
