Pen of the Year 2015 Gold Medium (M) SLE(New Old Stock) - Graf von Faber-Castell 2015 Pen of the Year 144090
- Inspired by the captivating architecture of Sanssouci Palace, built by Frederick the Great in Silesia after his victory in the Seven Years' War, the Graf von Faber-Castell 2015 Pen of the Year is among the most memorable pens reflecting history.
- Frederick II, the young King of Prussia, who ascended the throne in 1740 and was one of the most extraordinary rulers of all time, elevated Prussia to the ranks of great powers during his reign through his victories, foresight, strategies, enlightenment, and astonishing artistic sensibility. Following his victory against the Habsburg dynasty in the Seven Years' War, which incorporated Silesia into Prussia, and earning him the title of Frederick the Great for his military genius, he commissioned the construction of the grand and magnificent Sanssouci Palace as a token of this triumph. Showcasing his boundless artistic talent in the sketches he created for Sanssouci, and incorporating the Friedrich style exhibited there, Frederick the Great created a magnificent palace with splendid halls, impressive galleries, royal apartments, and a Baroque palace theatre. In creating this splendor, quarries from which highly valuable stones seized during the conquest of Silesia were extracted were used, and a palace unlike any other in Europe rose in the heart of Silesia, with marble wall coverings and floors paved with agate, quartz, and serpentine.
- Inspired by the Sanssouci Palace, which surpasses all other structures built during Frederick the Great's reign in the variety of natural stones personally selected by Frederick the Great, the Sanssouci Potsdam Pen of the Year series demands high standards of craftsmanship, and for this important task, gemstone craftsman Herbert Stephan was chosen. Continuing the Idar Oberstein gemstone carving tradition that emerged in the 15th century, Stephan surrounds all four sides of the pen with hand-hammered and polished green serpentine, a stone unique to Silesia, and adorns the cap design with chrysoprase, Frederick the Great's favorite natural stone, now only found in the antique stone market. The fountain pen, designed with 24-karat gold plating, features an 18-karat nib that completes its perfection. The Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year, a limited edition of 150 pieces, each individually numbered, is presented in a special wooden box, accompanied by a certificate signed by Herbert Stephan, sure to delight collectors.
