Get one of a kind, custom knife. The original knife was a Spyderco stovepipe in 20 CV and of course, dark washed titanium frame lock. First, reshaped the blade and the handle. A lot of of the strange angles were removed and the handle removed and refinished. Second, I did a multi edge on the blade and hand sanded it to a mat finish. There are a lot of interesting, designs and depth in the blade from different angles. It will hide scratches very well. Third, I textured a Herring bones/Chevron design by hand on matching on both scales. I then re-textured it with rush remover and then sanded it down so that the high points are shiny or contrasting with the darker low points. It is very smooth to the touch, but also has more grip than the original scales. Fourth, I sanded the clip and Backspacer to have more of a matte finish but also contrasts with the rest of the scales. Fifth, I flame bronze to the hardware to add to the distressed look. Finally the knife was re-sharpened and everything put back together and oiled.
This really is a unique piece, and one of my favorites that I’ve done. It still has all the great action and feeling of quality that the original has, but without the strange angles that make it fit oddly in your pocket. I also I’m really happy with the overall artistic aesthetic. I’m calling “war torn“. To me it looks distressed and beat up as if it’s been through some tough stuff, but still holding its head high and proud.
