Offered here is an outstanding and increasingly scarceset of original pre-World War II U.S. Army Air Corps Type B-7 flying goggles.Developed during the mid-1930s, the Type B-7 represented one of the Army AirCorps' early standardized flying goggles and was issued to military aviatorsduring the years leading up to America's entry into World War II. These goggleswere designed for use in open cockpit aircraft as well as the early generationof enclosed military aircraft, making them an important piece of early U.S.military aviation history.
This example was manufactured by the Chas.Fischer Spring Company, one of the premier suppliers of militaryaviation equipment during the pre-war period. The goggles retain the desirablestreamlined Chas. Fischer ventilators, a distinctive feature unique to theirproduction. The center bridge is clearly marked:
"USAC, GOGGLE, TYPE B-7"
The goggles remain in excellent overall condition. Themetal frames are straight, clean, and free from damage, showing only honestsigns of age. Installed are original American Optical Companyamber-colored glass lenses, which remain an attractive feature of this set andprovide excellent display appeal. The amber lenses were intended to reduceglare while improving visibility under varying light conditions.
The two-piece face cushions are high-quality currentproduction replacements manufactured to original specifications and fitted withoriginal brass sewn retaining rings, giving the goggles the correct wartimeappearance while providing a fresh, display-ready presentation. They are anexcellent complement to the original frames and lenses.
Compared to the later and much more commonly encounteredAN-6530 flying goggles, the Type B-7 was produced inrelatively limited numbers. Original examples have become increasinglydifficult to locate, particularly complete sets in this level of preservation. They are highly sought after by collectors specializing in pre-war Army AirCorps equipment, WWII aviation memorabilia, and military flight gear.
Whether displayed alongside an A-11 flying helmet, earlyAir Corps uniform, or as part of an aviation museum collection, this handsomeset represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire an authentic piece ofearly U.S. military aviation history.
A beautiful collector's example that would be difficultto upgrade. As nice as you will find.
