Vintage Silver Buddhist Prayer Wheel Pendant Charm
Description
This is a functional spinning prayer wheel pendant. In Tibetan Buddhism, a prayer wheel is used as a tool for reciting mantras and accumulating merit. Artisan-crafted in Kathmandu, Nepal, this pendant has a cylindrical body that rotates smoothly around a central stationary rod, decorated caps at the top and bottom to secure the spinning mechanism, and a dark red accent bead. The pendant features raised characters representing the sacred mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. It was handcrafted by a silversmith (known to me) in Kathmandu circa 2000. The pendant is not marked but has been tested silver. It is about 1 1/4 inches X about 1/4 inch and weighs about 1.7 grams.
