Wonderful and remarkably expressive antique carte de visite portrait of an unidentified Victorian child wearing a light-colored dress or apron with dark shoulder panels, decorative bows, and a large bib-style collar.
The child sits with small hands carefully folded and looks directly into the camera with an extraordinarily serious, slightly concerned expression. A dark, heavily textured or fur-like material rises behind and around the child. It may be a throw draped over a posing chair or another studio furnishing, but its exact form is unclear.
The photograph is mounted on dark green cardstock with rounded corners.
Measures: 2½ × 4 inches.
The reverse is blank with no name, location, or photographer’s imprint. Old paper and adhesive residue with surface loss remain along the upper edge of the back, likely from previous placement in an album.
Antique condition with fading, toning, scattered foxing and spots, light surface wear, and wear around the mount’s edges and corners. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
