Antique Victorian crazy quilt pieced from silk, velvet, and satin blocks, joined with elaborate hand feather-stitch and herringbone embroidery, standout pictorial needlework throughout (birds, florals, a sweet pig, a painted silk panel), and monogram initials worked into several blocks. Inscribed "Finished By Grandmama, February 28, 1903" and "Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin". There was another signature I was unable to decipher, looks like "Aunt ...". A couple other novelties like a several fraternal/event ribbons and a label from paris into the quilt top.
Backed in striped cotton with scattered colored yarn ties. Fair/as is vintage condition, better than typical for the category; some silk blocks are split or blown consistent with age, see photos closely. Not recommended for functional bed use; display only. Measures 62in x 82in.
