Up for sale is a highly unique and rare variant of a Vintage Royal Arcanum Past Regent fraternal Lodge of Sorrow medal.
While standard examples of this jewel feature an open-air gold star suspended cleanly from the top crown pin, this particular piece is a scarce Mourning / Memorial Variant. The reverse side of the 10-pointed star section has been structurally wrapped and backed with a solid black fabric drape.
In fraternal organizations like the Royal Arcanum, membership regalia was meticulously altered or draped in black cloth during a 'Lodge of Sorrow,' funeral processions, or following the passing of a prominent supreme council officer to display respect, mourning, and institutional solidarity.
