Antique J.C. Vickery London Leather Writing Portfolio Fox Hunt Royal Warrant Description
Beautiful antique J. C. Vickery of Regent Street, London leather writing portfolio / stationery folder, featuring a charming fox-hunting scene inset into the front cover.
The portfolio is covered in brown leather and measures approximately 9" x 12" when closed. The front features a rectangular framed color illustration depicting a traditional English fox hunt, with a mounted huntsman in a red coat riding among a pack of hounds.
Inside are fitted document/stationery pockets along with a removable paper or writing insert. The insert has assorted old pencil and ink markings, including an interesting pencil profile sketch of a bearded gentleman. These appear to have been added by a former owner and have been left exactly as found.
An especially desirable feature is the gold embossed retailer's mark on the interior leather panel, beneath a crown:

This identifies the portfolio with J. C. Vickery of London's Regent Street, a noted British retailer of luxury leather goods and other fine personal accessories. The royal appointment marking adds considerable historic character to the piece.
The interior also retains attractive moiré-patterned fabric lining, giving the portfolio a particularly elegant period appearance.
Approximate size: 9" x 12" closed.
A wonderful survivor with tremendous character—particularly appealing to collectors of antique leather goods, British writing accessories, J. C. Vickery memorabilia, royal warrant items, equestrian collectibles and traditional fox-hunting imagery.
Condition
Antique condition with considerable age and use wear. The leather shows scuffs, scratches, rubbing and edge/corner wear. There is notable wear and separation/deterioration around the spine/hinge area. Interior surfaces show discoloration, stains and wear. The removable insert has age toning, spots, writing, drawings and other marks. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
