ANTIQUE HALLOWEEN STENCILED PUMPKIN JACK O'LANTERN
RARE and unusual antique Halloween pressed and molded cardboard Jack O'Lantern pumpkin candle holder measuring about 5-1/2" tall by 6-1/2" wide. Featuring round eyes, triangle nose and elongated mouth, pumpkin is complete with wire handle, and candleholder mount with cardboard bracket on the interior - original base is stamped Germany. What makes this so special is the original, stenciled decoration on each side of the face - includes an arched black cat with white dot eye and red tongue, as well as a witch riding a broomstick with white dot eye. Bearing the original orange paint with a few overage dots on the interior, there is trace paper remaining around the edge of the eyes, as well as remains of a square glue mounted tissue paper on the interior as shown - love the extra red paint accenting around the nose and mouth. Construction is stapled on the inside - base is held in place via the cardboard candleholder bracket mount.
Condition is very nice with a bit of irregularity to the shape, minor compression mark on the back - I think the wire handle is a replacement - small bit of separation at the top edge that coordinates with the seam lines. Just an amazing early German candle holder pumpkin - stenciling puts it over the top - wonderful addition to any collection! From my Halloween collection to yours ...
