An excellent quality gilt bronze mantel clock with finelycast case by renowned maker Jean BaptisteDelettrez. The case has acanthus and laurel leaf moulding withscroll leaf design to the plinth base, egg and dart moulding and pineapplefinials. The case has inset porcelain panels delicately hand painted of birdsand cherubs within a gilt and pink border, surmounted with porcelain urn.
The white enamel dial has Roman numerals and the movementis an eight day duration which strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.
The movement and back plate is stamped with the makersname

Jean-Baptiste Delettrez was born in 1816, he was arenowned clock maker of the 19th century. He went in to partnership withAchille Brocot in 1851 and they became known as Brocot et Delettrez. They wereknown to be the most effective clock makers of their time and they made advancementsin clock making including a unique single-arm double-wheel escapement and atemperature-compensated pendulum. Once Brocot died in 1878, Delettrezproduced a conventional 8-day mantel clock, which struck the hours andhalf-hours, still based on the standard Brocot escapement and suspension thathe had helped to refine. Delettrez died in 1887.
