Beautiful antique handwoven wicker carrying basket, believed to date from the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1920.
Bressan baskets of this type were historically used for trips to market and for carrying provisions and live poultry, including chickens, ducks and also Rabbits. This example features beautifully detailed dark woven wicker/rattan construction, four substantial braided handles, decorative woven trim and original leather and metal closure hardware.

The basket retains its original-style leather and metal closure hardware. The leather tab features an attractive shield-shaped stamped monogram or maker/owner\'s mark.

Condition:
Genuine antique condition with considerable age and character. There is expected wear throughout, including surface dust/soiling, age-related discoloration, oxidation to the metal hardware, wear and dryness to the leather, and some broken, loose or missing wicker strands.
The basket remains remarkably complete for its age, including all four braided handles, hinged lid and closure hardware.
It has not been restored or refinished and retains a wonderful aged patina. Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
