This striking turn-of-the-century military portrait captures a young officer standing proudly before the camera, dressed in an impressive European dress uniform with ornate collar stars, shoulder boards, ceremonial cords, and medals that speak to a life of duty long before the Great War reshaped Europe. Housed in its original gold gesso frame with elegant Art Nouveau styling, the portrait has remained together for well over a century. On the reverse is a handwritten family note stating that the photograph was identified in 1997 by Joe Flasch, who was 88 years old at the time, adding a wonderful layer of provenance and family history to an already remarkable piece.
