Antique / early vintage (believed to be) Japanese cast iron Tang Dynasty-style war horse sculpture.
This is a very substantial decorative horse figure weighing approximately 8 lb 3.3 oz. It features a dramatic rearing / raised-leg pose with an arched neck, saddle, tack and stylized detailing inspired by ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty horse sculptures.
Based on comparable examples, this type of cast iron horse is generally associated with Japanese production from the early 20th century, approximately 1900-1940. Exact maker and date are unknown, so the age is not guaranteed.
The piece has a heavily aged silver/gray surface with significant patina, finish loss, oxidation, scratches and wear throughout. The worn surface gives it a very attractive old-world appearance and is consistent with substantial age.
