Antique bronze Adams Express Stamp wax seal. It measures 2.5 x 1 inch diameter. The top of the stamp has a ding/dent as shown. Light wear as shown, it does have some surface scratches and discoloration. The stamp is marked Adams Express Company Corning Mo 6076.
I read that Corning was a RR station along the Kansas City, St. Joseph & Council Bluffs Railroad, and that line later became part of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad system. Around 1880 the town was the eastern terminal for a line that crossed the Missouri river to Nebraska. Adams Express owned all of the transportation contracts and there was a dedicated operation desk in the Corning depot. The Adams Express was forced into a government merger in 1918 with Wells Fargo and American Express to consolidate shipping lines and called the American Railway Express Company.
