A rare and exquisite vintage/antique Jewish Yemenite Silver Smoking Pipe, handcrafted in 925 sterling silver and featuring a deep reddish-amber Bakelite mouthpiece. The base of the pipe bowl is clearly stamped with the Hebrew hallmark "ירושלם" (Jerusalem), as well as "MADE IN ISRAEL" and "925". Similar collectible pipes are documented and illustrated in notable Judaica research books, including "Bezalel of Zeev Holtzman: Israeli & Jewish Art Collection" (בצלאל שלי אוסף זאב שלי אומנות יהודית ארץ ישראלית).
Historical Significance & Craftsmanship
The Bezalel Academy: Founded in Jerusalem in 1906 by Boris Schatz, the Bezalel Academy sought to create a distinct Jewish artistic style by blending European Art Nouveau with traditional Middle Eastern motifs. Bezalel silverwork remains highly sought after by Judaica collectors worldwide.
Yemenite Filigree Art: When Yemenite Jewish silversmiths immigrated to Jerusalem in the early 20th century, Boris Schatz integrated them into Bezalel. Known for their unmatched skill in delicate filigree (shubak), these master craftsmen used fine, twisted silver wire and tiny silver granules to construct intricate lace-like patterns. This pipe highlights that classic spiraled stem and beaded filigree bowl casing.
A standout addition for collectors of antique Judaica, smoking paraphernalia, or historic Israeli silversmithing. Ships carefully packaged with tracking.
