This is an antique German handpainted miniature portrait of Diane De Poitiers. She was a prominent French noble woman and the famous chief mistress of King Henry II of France during the 16th century. In keeping with the Renaissance revival trends of the 19th century, she is idealized here with classical imagery, including a crescent moon tiara symbolizing, Diana, the Roman goddess of the Hunt
The back features a circular stamp marked made in Germany, surrounding a central cross symbol. This mark was commonly utilized by German porcelain decorators and export Studios during the late to early 20th centuries to comply with international trade and McKinley tariffs. The handwritten numbers 321 and 112/36/21 correspond to internal studio inventory numbers or specific pattern references used by the workshop painters there is a visible break and split line at the bottom and it looks like some damage to the left-hand side of the frame as pictured the delicate porcelain plaque itself, appears to be intact and free of hairline fractures from the front view without the damage to the frame, this would be worth anywhere from $400-$1000, hence my pricing at $225 I tried to take really good photos, but I couldn’t get the pictures of Diane to look as good as they do in real life. She is beautiful no wonder she was the head, French Noble woman mistress.!!! please look at pictures carefully as they are evidence of condition
