Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, formerly known as theHistoric Atlantic City Convention Hall, is a multi-purpose indoorarenainAtlantic City, New Jersey. Built during 1926–1929, it was Atlantic City\'s primaryconvention centeruntil the opening of the newAtlantic City Convention Centerin 1997. Boardwalk Hall was declared a U.S.National Historic Landmarkin 1987 as one of the few surviving buildings from the city\'s early heyday as a seaside resort. The venue seats 10,500 people forice hockey, and at maximum capacity can accommodate 14,770 forconcerts. Boardwalk Hall is the home of theMiss America Pageant. Boardwalk Hall contains the world\'s largest musical instrument, apipe organwith over 33,000 pipes, eight chambers, the world\'s largest console with seven manuals and over 1000 stops, and one of two 64-foot (20m) stops (the other found in theSydney Town Hall). The Main Auditorium was built as the world\'s largest unobstructed indoor space, abarrel vaultmeasuring 456×310×137 feet (139×94×42m) and enclosing 5,500,000 cubic feet (160,000m3) of air. The Auditorium Organ runs on much higher wind pressures than most organs, to be loud enough to fill the enormous space acoustically without amplification.
