What are Swazi agates?
Swazi agates are colorful, banded chalcedony nodules found near the border of Mozambique & Eswantini (formerly known as Swaziland) in southeastern Africa. Their appearance generally features distinct concentric or water-level color banding, often displaying shades of gray, blue, rose, pink, red, orange, lavender and black. Some specimens contain quartz centers, sagenite inclusions, parallax banding or dendritic patterns. They have a rating of 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and, as such, are dense, highly durable and take a very glossy shine when polished. They are ideal for tumbling and cabbing.
