In March 2022, the 1st Ivan Bohun Special Forces Brigade was formed. It participated in the liberation of the Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Zhytomyr, and Kyiv regions. In 2022, units of the brigade fought heavy battles during the liberation of the Kharkiv region and the counteroffensive on Beryslav in the Kherson region (Borozenske, Kucherske, Pyatkhatky).
In April 2024, the brigade became part of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine and was subsequently renamed the 1st Territorial Defense Brigade.
