The MTX series represented Honda\'s road-going trail and enduro motorcycles during the 1980s, combining dirt-bike styling and off-road equipment with the lighting and street equipment needed for everyday road use. The MTX200R sat toward the larger end of the family and used a lightweight two-stroke single-cylinder engine, long-travel suspension, spoked wheels and Honda\'s Pro-Link rear suspension system.
Its angular headlight enclosure, high front fender, upswept exhaust, long motocross-style seat and bold red bodywork are pure early-1980s Honda. Unlike Honda\'s competition-only CR motocross machines, the MTX was intended to bridge the gap between trail and street riding—a machine that could tackle dirt roads and trails without requiring a trailer to get there.
The 1983 MTX200R is also far less commonly encountered in the United States than Honda\'s familiar XR and XL models, giving it particular appeal among collectors of unusual international-market Hondas and vintage two-stroke motorcycles.
