🇯🇵 VINTAGE 1950s JAPANESE SAMURAI WARRIOR FIGURE — POSSIBLY HAKATA STYLE — ORIGINAL MID-CENTURY JAPAN SOUVENIR
A remarkable piece of postwar Japanese folk art with a fantastic story behind it. Offered here is alarge, highly detailed vintage Japanese samurai warrior figurine, dating to approximately the1950s, during the period of postwar reconstruction in Japan.
This piece came through my family and is associated with my grandfather, who was in the Air Force andstationed in Japan during the 1950s. The figure depicts a heavily armoredJapanese samurai warrior, complete witha separate sword.
There appears to be afaded light-blue marking or writing on the underside/base, but it is extremely worn and difficult to read.
Because the mark has not been positively identified, I amnot representing this as a confirmed Urasaki, Hakata, or other named maker.
Instead, I am offering it as avintage Japanese samurai figure, probably dating to the mid-20th century and possibly related to the Hakata-style clay doll tradition.
That distinction is intentional.
A knowledgeable Japanese-art or Hakata-doll collector may be able to identify the workshop or maker from the remaining marking.

There are 3 piece of his back suit that came off and need to be repaired, I am not going to glue them myself or do any restorations, saving that for the person who buys it.
It appears to have been repaired in the past as you can see in the photo of the foot, also there are cracks in other places, I am unable to fully asses its repair needs. I an selling it as is and as a project!
This is anold, original vintage figure, not a new reproduction.
These imperfections are part of the character and history of the piece.
I have intentionally not refinished, repainted, or aggressively cleaned it.
