Here I have for sale an absolutely amazing Native American painting from the 1950s by Romando Vigil. This painting is actually a Christmas card that was given to my wife’s grandparents when they lived next-door to Gwen and Falling Cloud in San Bernardino, California during the 1950s. They were excellent friends and neighbors for almost a decade. Gale‘s grandfather told her that this was actually a painting from the 1930s and he just put that newer sticker on the inside cover for reference. The signature of Tse Ye Mu fits the 1930s timeframe. Also on the back there is a number #1 basket dance, which would fit the 1930s timeframe as well as part of a portfolio he did during that timeframe.
Inside the card, there is a hand inscription that reads “May God‘s blessings be yours during this holiday season”. “ much love, Gwen and Falling Cloud”. I cannot prove that this came from the 1930s. After much research and help from AI there were no negative contradictions to this being from the 1930s. However, I am no expert.
We have had this in our possession for at least 30 years and my wife remembers it sitting on the mantle since childhood. Her grandfather talked about falling cloud often and how he was an amazing person and artist. There were no enhancements used in the photos. What you see is exactly what you get. There is some staining and what looks like dirt on the card. There is a tiny 1/4” tear in the seam at the top that I took a picture of. there is some browning on the card that I assume is from being backed with the wrong kind of material. I was told all this stuff could be restored to increase the value, but my wife and I just don’t wanna do it. The actual painting is stunning. No blemishes on the painting and the color is bold and bright. The autograph is also bold and bright with no damage.
