Original World War II–era pay receipt issued by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company at its Emeryville, California facility.
Dated August 24, 1944, the receipt was issued to employee William J. Athey and is marked “Retroactive Day Workers Adjustment.” It records gross earnings of $36.47, deductions for Social Security and federal tax, and a net check amount of $28.74.
An interesting piece of American home-front industrial history from one of the country’s major wartime manufacturers. Westinghouse produced a wide range of military equipment during World War II and was also responsible for the celebrated 1943 “We Can Do It!” worker-morale poster.
The reverse retains portions of the original printed security pattern and shows dark transfer or adhesive-related discoloration from its earlier storage.
Condition: Original vintage condition with horizontal and vertical folds, light toning, minor handling wear and scattered discoloration. Darkened residue or transfer is present on the reverse. All printing remains legible. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
